B LEAGUE CUP FINAL

B LEAGUE CUP FINAL

Sunday night at Botany rink saw the much anticipated B League final played between Savages & Voodoo. The results throughout the season had been split evenly & with the Savages winning the last game 3 - 2 in the Cup playoff round this was going to be a very close contest.

1st Period
The game started off at a high pace with some nice plays from both teams looking to score the first goal. Savages #44 Sergie Kevrukh would give his team a 1 - 0 advantage mid way through the first with Voodoo's #3 Rachel Park answering soon after to bring the score back to 1 - 1. Voodoo would take control of the play for much of the remainder of the period & #17 Alex Hyde scored of a rebound to give her team the 2 - 1 advantage .Voodoo outshot Savages 11 - 7 in the first and look to keep the pressure on the Savages.

2nd Period
The second period would mirror the first with both teams generating great scoring opportunities at both ends of the rink & Savages outshooting Voodoo 13 - 12. The Savages would have the better of the scoring opportunities throughout the 2nd period but it would be Voodoo's #19 John O'Sullivan scoring a power play goal late in the second to give Voodoo 3 - 1 advantage.

 3rd Period
With a two goal deficit the Savages would reshuffle there lines to try score early looking to reduce the Voodoo advantage. Voodo would have 9 shots on net in the 3rd period with most of the their shots coming from long range and easily dealt with. Voodoo would rely on team defense & great goaltending from #1 Lochlyn Hyde to maintain the two goal advantage.
In a last ditch effort with only a few minutes remaining Savages would gamble by pulling their goaltender & this lead to #38 Aaron Somerville scoring a well constructed 2nd goal to reduce the deficit to 3 - 2.
Again the Savages would pull there goalie which nearly backfired when Voodoo #19 John O'Sullivan missed the open net & this lead to Savages  driving the puck back into the Voodoo defensive zone for one last push. Voodoo again relied heavily on goaltender #1 Lochlyn Hyde to turn away multiple chances & hold on to their 3 - 2 advantage to take out the final.

Congratulation to Voodoo 2015 B League Champions.
